Te Lovers Newsletter - Delightful Calligraphy and Art from Lim Chung

New Art

Our walls are adorned by the very bold and attractive art of local calligrapher, artist, and teacher Lim Chung. From the artist herself:

"I was always astonished by the beauty of old houses and architectures around the world. I tried to capture them in a way that the “old” and “beauty” exist at the same time, at last, with my black and white brush stokes perception, and I am satisfied."

Her Bio

Lim Chung was born to an artist family in Malaysia. When she started to learn calligraphy in elementary school, her works were always posted as a model to other students. She learnt to paint Chinese ink paintings from her father since she was a teenager. Continuing her hobby over the years she decided to pursue her long time passions in Chinese Calligraphy and ink paintings after working as a Professional Building Designer for almost ten years.

Currently, she teaches Chinese Calligraphy at Artists’ Alliance of Sugar Land, Chinese Community Center and Spring Branch Community Center, she also teaches ink painting class at Bear Creek Community Center and Spring Branch Education Center. She had conducted workshops at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston (MFAH) and at local libraries since 2005.

Her works had been collected by private collectors.

New Drinks

Oh we're in the thick of summer now, and this being Houston, we can expect a couple more months of heat.  You may be the kind that savors hot drinks on hot days (it's actually good for you!), but there are others that demand something cold - very cold!  We always have 3 iced tea specials every day (including a tisane, the no-caffeine  option), and most any tea can be made iced at your request.  In addition, we have a few new drinks that have been very popular in the summer months, including:

  • Waikiki Soda - an "italian" soda, fresh simple syrup made from our Waikiki tisane, a blend of hibiscus, orange peel, lemongrass, rosehip, spearmint and ginseng root.   Refreshing!
  • Waikiki Smoothie - our Waikiki tisane simple syrup (yes, it's very popular!) blended into a sherbert and yogurt concoction.  Cold and satisfying.
  • Berrilicious Smoothie - a berry garden blended into a parfait cup!  Strawberries, blueberries and the exotic goji berries fresh blended with ice cream and yogurt.  Full of antioxidants and deliciously rich.

Light Dinners and the Creole Empanada

With all this heat, do you get the feeling that heavy meals just don't sit right?!  We notice that too, yet perhaps to our surprise Te has become a popular evening dinner place for those looking for something lighter.  Crepes and salads are popular in the evening, as well as Connie's made-from-scratch empanadas, samosas, quiches, and the creative "Chicken-in-the-Blanket".  We have a new cook on board, and he's introduced the very delicious, lightly spicy Creole Empanada: a crawfish and creole sauce empanada delight.  Thanks Garry!

Something New

We have something new and exciting to announce - can't wait to say it, but we have to wait ... for another month.  Coming soon, and we think you'll all be excited.  Stay tuned!

Refreshingly yours,

the Te House of Tea staff
