New tea, new art, new music ...

New Tea Arrivals - The Russians are Coming! The Russians are Coming!

We are excited about the arrival of a whole new batch of teas: several blended teas made in the Russian style.  One of the things we most love about tea is its endless diversity -- both in the numerous varieties of teas, and the diverse traditions surrounding the making and drinking of tea.  Every country and culture has its own tea style.

Russian tea drinking is centered around the samovar (read more about samovars here)  Samovars are certainly great to gather around on a cold winter day.  Another comforting, delicious tradition of the Russians is to add various berry flavorings to tea.  This also provides a hint as to what goes well with Russian teas: jams, pastries, and other confections!  Never milk, of course, but perhaps lemon and sugar are added to your strong teas.

This also reminds us of Russian Caravan Tea, a strong tea that, unfortunately, can only be imitated today.  We'll leave that story for another day.  :)

Try these new teas on your next visit ... also available in bulk loose leaf:

  • Russian Sour Vines Black - a strong pekoe black tea with cherry , grape,  strawberry, and currant flavors
  • Russian Herbal Floral Green - green tea with a vivacious mix of melissa, chamomile, lavender, hibiscus, strawberry leaves, orange blossoms, mints, & currant leaves
  • Russian Winter Berries Green - green tea with bilberries, blueberries,  elderberries,  and papaya
  • Russian Sour Vines Tisane - like Russian Sour Vines Black, without the black tea
  • Russian Winter Berries Tisane - another herbal mixture, without the tea leaves.

New Music

AnjaliWe are excited to have a live performance this Saturday, featuring Anjali and Rainjan.   This promises to be an entrancing evening, mixing Anjali's angelic voice with a blend of styles and languages "born of Anjali's extensive background in universal forms of music - East Indian, Brazilian, Jazz, and Latin American" and Rainjan Ramon Sosa's talents as a dynamic and inspiring singer/songwriter of spiritual and socially conscious world music.

Bring your inner peace, and come see Anjali and Ramon this Saturday, September 9, starting at 8:30 pm.  (for more information about the artists, or to enter this event into your calendar, visit our Events page).

We present music that, like our tea, enhances inner peace and harmony, and highlights traditions from around the world.  Té is striving to become the premier venue for live world music performances in Houston, offering a peaceful, intimate locale with a very supportive customer base.  If you are interested in performing soon at Té, please call 713.522.8868 and ask for Yvette, or write to info@tehouseoftea.com.

In peace,
